Sorting through all of the available drug addiction treatment centers out there is exasperating to say the least. The frustration and apathetic feelings that come about as a result are painful and create further destruction for not only the addict, but the family. We don’t need to tell you, if you have a son or daughter who needs a quality drug addiction treatment center, they are hard to come by. Addicts will enter a short term drug detox programs, only to come out and fall flat, often refusing to enter any kind of treatment program more then a few days or weeks. This leaves little chance of success.

Missouri Drug Treatment Centers

Thousands of people in Missouri seek the aid of the many drug addiction treatment centers throughout the state. The Missouri Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse is charged with providing substance abuse treatment programming and provides treatment to thousands of Missourians annually. Sorting through and finding successful treatment with the options provided can be confusing the say the least, that’s where we come in, we can help you sort this out.

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), reports an estimated 477,000 individuals in Missouri have had alcohol or illicit drug dependence or abuse within the past year, representing roughly 10 percent of the State’s population. Most of these addicts were seeking the help in alcohol addiction treatment centers.  At best Missouri drug treatment programs service about ten percent of the addicted population leaving hundreds of thousands without care.

This lack of drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs creates the need for triage type of treatment, or “let’s slow down the traffic” which opens the door for less than favorable rehabilitation and treatment methods. For instance the The Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 (DATA 2000), Title XXXV, Section 3502 of the Children’s Health Act of 2000, permits physicians who meet certain qualifications to treat opioid addiction with Schedule III, IV, and V narcotic drugs that have been specifically approved by the Food and Drug Administration for that indication.

Such drugs may be prescribed and dispensed by waived physicians in treatment settings other than the traditional Opioid Treatment Program (methadone clinic) setting. Since there is only one narcotic medication approved by the FDA for the treatment of opioid addiction within the Schedules given, DATA 2000 basically refers to the use of buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid addiction. Methadone and LAAM are Schedule II narcotics approved for the same purpose within the highly regulated methadone clinic setting.

Successful Drug Rehab Centers and Treatment Modalities

Finding a drug addiction treatment program that can provide some level of hope and success in addiction recovery is challenging to say the least, and with all the misinformation on addiction out there, it’s no wonder the addiction problem persists.Success in substance abuse treatment, alcohol addiction treatment or any addiction does not involve replacement drugs as therapy. Of course, if a physical issue that requires medical attention exists that should be handled with any drugs but just for that medical condition, not as therapy. Drugs are poisons and altar the normal function of the body.

For true rehabilitation to take place, anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications should not be used except in the most extreme drug treatment cases. A very small percentage of addicts needing a drug addiction treatment center in Missouri require replacement drugs and therapy. A very large percentage of addicts prescribed replacement drugs go onto abuse those drugs that are used in this drug treatment modality, along with the drug of choice.

Drug addiction treatment centers that provide a drug free long term approach to rehabilitation have consistently higher success rates across the board. These drug treatment programs generally involve a structured nutritional regimen that restores deficiencies created during and after substance abuse and lessens the likelihood of relapse markedly.
